July 4 - God Bless America

Hello CottageCutz friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Sunday edition of the Blog.

We have a brand-new release in the online store. It's our Patriotic 4th of July release with 12 amazing patriotic designs. You can still pick up the individual dies at 30% off

If you love making patriotic cards to honor a veteran, to celebrate the 4th of July or to display your love for America, we have you covered with this new release. And don't forget about scrapbooking the photos you took at your July 4th celebrations.

There is also a 4th of July sale going on right now in the online store. It runs through July 7th with savings of up to 70%.

My card for today is featuring the Statue of Liberty die in a diagonal joy fold design. Here is a link to another card I made in this design with a complete tutorial.

I looked at photos online of the Statue of Liberty to get an idea of the color. Over the years it took on a green patina with copper underneath. So, I attempted to recreate that color by using distress inks in salvaged patina and hickory smoke.

For the background on this image panel, I used prized ribbon, salvaged patina and villainous potion distress inks for the ink blending. My buildings are cut from the City Skyline Slimline die and I added a few glittery stars to this panel.

On the diagonal panel I used designer paper and I cut my July 4 phrase from the Stitched Alphabet and Stitched Numbers die. We have a new die in the Patriotic release - Happy 4th of July but I couldn't get it to fit on my diagonal panel. The red swirl is part of the USA Flag die that I had left over from another card.
This is a photo of the card closed.
And here is the card inside. I used the Fireworks die.
Well, that's it for me for this post. Happy 4th of July and see you again on Saturday!

Back to School Bus

Happy Friday everyone!  It's Jeanne posting today with a card that celebrates that most wonderful time of the year - back to school! This card is perfect to commemorate the first day of school.  I used the sentiment "ABC, 123" but you can also swap that out for "1st Day".  Since I don't know any wee ones who were having a "never-been-to-school-before" first day, I chose the more general sentiment.
I used the Party Animal Bus from the new birthday release and cut out the pieces in various shades of browns and grays - a great way to use up scraps.  I used a dark yellow and a silver for the bus.
Using a fine tip multi-liner pen, I completed the eyes and noses on the critters and glued them together.
I cut the numbers and letters from primary color card stock using the Stitched Letters and Stitched Numbers dies.
This card is a little larger than usual.  It's an A6 - 4.5 x 6 inches.  I stared with a piece of black cut to 9 x 6 and then scored it in the middle for my top-fold card base.  Using wood look paper, I cut four strips .5 x 6 inches (the paper was 6 x 6 inch paper).
I glued two strips to the sides and snipped off the ends (so I didn't have to measure!)
Then I glued on the top and bottom strips, forming my school slate.
The bus went on next with all the animals.
Finally I added the ABC, 123, the bow and enamel dots in all four corners as nails or rivets.  I used foam dots to adhere the fenders over the wheels and wheel wells.

Graduation Card

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

We have a brand new release of Just For Guys dies in the online store, and they are currently 25% off.  There are 14 new designs and they are ideal for masculine cards, guy stuff or car buffs. They all have a retro and classic look. The design team has been showing samples using the new dies. So if you haven't seen them, take a look back on the Blog for some creative ideas for your masculine cards.

For my card today, I am featuring the new Traffic Light die. I needed a graduation card, and I thought this die would make something a little different.  Let's get started with some details on how I created my project.
Step 1: I chose my card colors based on the school colors. It's a blue -gray theme. My blue cardstock is called lost lagoon and I used patterned paper to match. I used the largest Stitched Scallop die to cut my rectangle panel.
Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Patterned Paper Layer: 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"
Stitched Scalloped Layer: 3 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Step 2: Cut out the traffic light pieces. I like to use colored cardstock when I cut my dies. It's easier for me to do it that way. But you can certainly use white cardstock then the color medium of your choice. Either way works great.
I cut the 2018 from gray cardstock and I used the Stitched Numbers die. This card is going to a girl so the scalloped panel and the stitched numbers give it a bit more femininity.
Step 3: Time to start a bit of the card assembly. I attached the PP layer to the card base with double sided tape.
Started the assembly of the image panel. First, I had to stamp my "go" word on the greenlight. I didn't have a stamp with just that word. But, I found one with the word "got".
By masking off the "t" and the rest of the sentiment I had what I wanted. Sometimes we just have to get a little resourceful with what we have to work with.
Attached to panel then I stamped my sentiment in the bottom right corner. Used the Stamp-a-ma-jig for help with keeping it straight.
I applied Ranger multi matte medium to the numbers. Placed them on an angle just for added interest.
Step 4: To finish off my card, I used mounting tape and attached image panel to base.  I thought it needed something else to complete it so I added a few gray enamel dots. It was just a little bling but not too much to overwhelm the other elements of my card.
Well that's it for me for this post. I hope I have given you another idea for a way to use these new dies. See you next Saturday!!
