Sweet Slimline Birthday

Hello and welcome back ~ it's Kris here on this sweet Sunday... or shall I say sundae? ☺  This week I'm sharing a yummy slimline birthday card using the Ice Cream Sundae die from the new Sweet Treats release, along with some other funtastic CottageCutz dies!

Design Steps

I cut a piece of pink cardstock to 8-1/2" x 7" & scored at 3-1/2" along the 7" side.

Next, I die-cut a white frame (I used glittery white cardstock) from the Windows Slimline die.

And then I cut 3 pieces of coordinating patterned papers at 2-1/2" x 2-3/4".

I glued the patterned papers to the back of window frames, and then glued the frame to card base.

Next, I cut all my pieces with the Ice Cream Sundae and sentiment dies and glued together.
  • The cupcake liners were cut from patterned papers in the same paper pad as my 3 rectangle frame pieces so they coordinate.  I cut the rest of the die out of pink, brown and white cardstock.
  •  I gave some shadows to the strawberry & chocolate ice cream and colored all other pieces with Copic markers.
  • The top layers of the sentiments were cut from glittery white cardstock, like the frame.
  • I added some shaker elements to the ice cream for some sparkly "sprinkles"

And to finish the card, I attached all the die-cut elements to my card front using foam dots.  Easy peasy!

Thanks for taking a peek!  Hope your Sunday is extra sweet!

Birthday Blooms

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog. Hope you are doing ok in the midst of the pandemic. It's a great time to make some cards. I find it so relaxing being able to create and have my mind off all that's going on.

The latest release of Spring dies are available in the online store and currently 25% off.  There are 27 new dies in the release and each one is cuter than the next. They are perfect for Spring card making.

Today, I am featuring the new Spring Blooms die. I used it to create a birthday card for a special friend. She loves flowers and is an avid gardener so this one is perfect for her. So let's get started on how I created this card.

Design Steps:

I started my card this week by selecting a designer paper. I already had a layout in mind using the Stitched Wide Rectangle Frame die that would frame the paper. I found this paper that was in a galaxy collection that I thought would work well because of the soft colors.

I paired it up with a heather (purple) cardstock and cut the frame in a lighter purple cardstock.
Heather card base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Pierced Wide Frame: 3 3/4" x 4 3/4"

I laid the frame on the designer paper to figure out where to make my cut. I wanted more of the blue on the bottom right. That way I could stamp my sentiment directly on the paper.

I then cut the blooms various cardstock colors. You could always cut in white cardstock and then sponge on colors or color with markers or pencils.
I am ready to start card assembly. I stamped the birthday sentiment directly on the designer paper in a grape ink.
I decided to add this panel to the card base before I attached the die cut blooms. Just in case I decided to take the flowers outside the frame.
Next I attached the flower spray. I laid it out before attaching to get an idea of where everything should go. I used a combination of glue dots and multi-matte adhesive.
I worked from the bottom up and used the packaging photo for help with placement. I adjusted to fit my card design.

I added a few of the lighter purple sequins to finish off my card.
Well, that's it for me for this week. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday and this year it's a bit different for us here. We will watch our church service online and then Easter dinner will just be my hubby and I. No extended family this year because of the stay at home order that's in place. So whatever you are doing enjoy! See you next Saturday.

Party Pony - interlocking gatefold card

Hi, Janja is here with you.
I have another birthday card for you today. I found the idea for this card in an animated fantasy movie - My Little Pony.

- CottageCutz dies: Party Pony, Birthday Cupcake w/Roses, Happy, Birthday
- white card base: 5.90" x 5.90" (15 x 15 cm), folded
- patterned paper: 5.6 x 5.6" (14,2 x 14,2 cm)
- colored cardstock
- colored ink pads
- white gel pen
- double-sided adhesive tape, glue

Cut a pony out of colored cardstock 5 times.

Sponge a sheet of white cardstock with colored pads and cut out the Happy Birthday sentiment.

Prepare the card base.

Cut the frame using square dies. Once from white cardstock and once from patterned paper. Outer size is 4.25 "x 4.25" (11,5 x 11,5 cm).
We will also use both interior squares.

Trim patterned paper twice. Cut out the cupcake.

Attach the patterned paper and both frames to the card base as shown.

Now all we have to do is paste the ponies, the sentiment and the cupcake.

To close the card easier, I later cut off with a corner puncher lower left corner of the center square.

Have a nice day.
Janja

Fairy Tale Birthday

Hello Scrapping Cottage friends! Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit with us today. It's Mary Marsh here bringing you the Saturday edition of the Blog.

We have released the new Magical Garden dies. There are 14 new designs and they are currently on sale at 25% off.
If you love fairies, fairy gardens, gnomes and flowers, you will love these dies. We will have several group posts to jump start your creativity starting next week. In the meantime, check out this little teaser from Jeanne using  the Mushroom Fairy Garden and the Fairy Garden Flowers dies.

Today, I am featuring the Princess Cake die. This one is from the Magical Fantasy collection of dies. I wanted the cake to be the center of attention on this card so I kept my design on the simple side. Let's get started with some details on how I created it.

Step 1: I was looking for a more clean and simple layout for this card. When I checked out the Splitcoaststampers Wednesday sketch challenge #752, it was just what I was looking for. The beauty of any sketch is that you can always bump it up a notch with designer paper, ribbon and embellishments. I stuck pretty much to the sketch layout this time.
Step 2:  I selected my card colors based off the designer paper I chose to use. I bought a pack of watercolor papers at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. The colors are perfect for all the cards I have been creating using the Magical Fantasy dies.
Light Purple Card Base: 4 1/8" x 5 1/4"
Designer Paper Layer: 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
White Image Panel: 2nd largest rectangle die (2 11/16" x 3 11/16")
Light Purple Layer:  2nd largest pierced rectangle die (2 7/8" x 3 7/8")

Next, I cut the princess cake. I used 2 shades of pink and a light purple. The princess crown I cut in a metallic gold. I liked all the sparkle for a cake topper.
I stamped the sentiment on the white image panel. I only wanted the words Write Your Own Fairy Tale and Happy Birthday. Since both of the sentiments had more words that what I wanted to use, I taped off the portion that I didn't want and inked up the remainder. Used my MISTI just in case I need to ink the stamp a 2nd time. But, today with the grape ink once was sufficient.
Step 3: I am ready to start card assembly. Attached the designer paper to the card base using double sided tape. For element 2 of the sketch, I cut a 3/4" piece of grape cardstock and embossed it with hearts.
Added the cake to the white panel using dimensional adhesive.
Added the image panel to the card base using double sided tape. The sketch layout was to have the image panel a little further down on the card base. I decided to center this panel. To finish off my card, I decided to use a few glitter enamel dots.

Well, that's it for me for this week. See you next Saturday.
